The Proms in the Meadow at Iron Acton (9th. July 2011), is an annual festival of music that raises money for charity. This year, as part of a world theme, the Bristol City Pipes and Drums were invited to participate.

Sixteen pipers and nine drummers, led by Drum Major Richard Bingham, marched into the arena to begin the second half of the Proms evening. The weather was kind and members of the audience, replete from their picnics and Pimms, gave a warm welcome as ‘Scotland the Brave’ stirred Scottish and Sassenach hearts. On the dais, the band played a variety of melodies and, as always, ‘Amazing Grace’ brought huge applause. The band corps, led by Jim McMillan, thrilled the listeners with a drum salute. Siobhan Mullen gave a commentary, between the sets, and, judging by the feedback from the organisers, the whole performance was well received by the crowd.
